Pharmaceutical company Warner Chilcott has announced it it to establish a new facility in Co Louth which could lead to the creation of up to 200 jobs.

The announcement was made by Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan earlier today. The investment is supported by the Government through IDA Ireland.

Warner Chilcott’s new Dundalk facility is expected to house a host of functions, which may include executive offices, analytical services, manufacturing operations and shared services to support Warner Chilcott’s operations in the European Union.

The company, which focuses on gastroenterology, women's healthcare, dermatology and urology, is a Nasdaq-listed firm which was spun-out from Warner-Lambert in 1996.

The firm, which relocated from Bermuda to Ireland for tax reasons last year, has registered offices at Ardee Business Park, Co Louth.

"This development is excellent news for the north-east region and Ireland as a whole. Dundalk is one of Ireland’s busiest economic corridors, between Dublin and Belfast, and today’s announcement will bring new high quality employment opportunities to the region, adding further to the regions portfolio of world class Foreign Direct Investment companies operating here which include Xerox, Heinz, Moffett, Diageo, ABB, National Pen and Satir," said Ms Coughlan.

Warner Chilcott has employees in 12 countries in North America and Western Europe and has manufacturing facilities in Northern Ireland, Germany and Puerto Rico.
