A FRENCH anti abortion activist urged people at an anti abortion meeting last night to show that "you would give your life" to prevent the legalisation of abortion.

Ms Noelia Garcia (22) addressed the Youth Defence organised meeting in Dublin after a weekend of rallies and media interviews. The Paris model has been a militant activist in France staging "rescues" at four abortion clinics, chaining herself to operating tables.

Ms Garcia told the audience they would need to persuade the media that they were prepared to "do anything that was non violent", to prevent abortion.

"If you show that you would do anything, I'm sure they'll take you into account."

Ms Garcia claimed she was not anti abortion on religious grounds but because she "just loves human beings".

The high profile activist has modelled for L'Oreal and Air France and has been arrested and fined for her activities at French abortion clinics.

Observers in France believe the anti abortion movement is, moving towards more aggressive US methods. Activists in France have started comparing abortion to the Holocaust.

At a rally in Limerick on Saturday, Ms Garcia said: "Ireland is the only country in Europe where there is no legalised abortion and I really admire your country."

The Youth Defence organised rally also picketed the home of, Minister for Health, Mr Noonan. There was a strong Garda presence but the demonstration passed off peacefully.

At last night's meeting, Youth Defence leader, Ms Niamh Nic Mhathuna, urged listeners to join the weekly trip to Limerick to picket Mr Noonan.

"You are the only defence the unborn child has," she told the audience of mainly elderly people. "You are the last line of defence."
