Irish-born architect Caroline O'Donnell will be building a summer installation for New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) after winning the museum's Young Architects Programme for her design of "party wall" for its outpost in Long Island City.
Described by the New York Times as "a tall steel frame that is balanced in place with large fabric containers filled with water", its porous facade includes 120 detachable panels that can be used as benches as well as a shallow stage. It will be the setting for this year's Warm Up summer music series in the courtyard of MoMA PS1, a contemporary art centre in Long Island City - fulfilling the programme's aim to generate "creative, environmentally sound ideas" for a temporary outdoor installations.
