New iPhone prices announced

O2 has today confirmed pricing for the new iPhone 3Gs, which will be available from next Friday in Ireland.

The mobile operator also announced that the cost of the existing 8Gbyte iPhone 3G is to be reduced from tomorrow onwards.

The iPhone 3GS – which boasts a longer battery life and an improved three megapixel camera that can record video and support for multimedia messaging - will run an updated version of the iPhone operating system which existing iPhone owners can download free of charge from today via iTunes.

The new 16Gbyte iPhone 3G S will be available to contract customers from €79 to €199 depending on price plan. The 32 Gbyte version will cost from €169 to €299.

The new phones will also be available on Prepay from next Friday. The 16Gbyte version will retail at a recommended retail price of €519, while the 32Gbye version will sell at €609.

Meanwhile, the existing 8Gbyte iPhone 3G will be free to contract customers who sign up for O2's iPhone 700 price plan. Outside of that it will cost between €49 and €99 depending on which price plan is chosen.
