NCH announces 15th birthday celebrations

THE National Concert Hall yesterday announced plans for the celebration of its 15th anniversary next September

THE National Concert Hall yesterday announced plans for the celebration of its 15th anniversary next September. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim will make its Irish debut at the NCH in a programme of Schoenberg and Bruckner on September 9th, 15 years to the day after the hall was opened.

The New York Philharmonic under Kurt Masur will play at the NCH on August 15th, when works by Ned Rorem and Bruckner will be relayed live for an open air screening in Temple Bar Square.

The third visiting symphony orchestra will be Manchester's Halle, which makes a return visit on November 29th in a programme of Ravel. Bartok and Beethoven.

The European Union Chamber Orchestra is to give a concert on October 10th, to mark Ireland's presidency of the European Union the soloist for this event will be the Irish cellist, Emma Jane Murphy.

The NCH Irish Times Celebrity Concert Series brings appearances by the cellist, Lynn Harrell (Octoher 5th), violinists Tasmin Little (November 9th), Kyung Wha Chung (March 15th, 1997), and Midori (May 18th), and pianists Radu Lupu (December 1st) Andreas Schiff (February 2nd) and Vladimir Ashkenazy.

Other new projects announced included two concerts devoted to Hugo Wolf's Spanisches Liederbuch in October and the first three concerts of a Mozart piano concerto cycle by Hugh Tinney with the Orchestra of St Cecilia.
