Murder inquiry after death of man

Gardaí have launched a murder inquiry after a man died in hospital on Sunday

Gardaí have launched a murder inquiry after a man died in hospital on Sunday. He was found lying on the pavement outside a house at Cabra Park, Cabra, in Dublin.

The dead man was a 32-year-old Slovakian national. He had been living in the house at Cabra Park with a number of other people. Gardaí last night detained three Slovakians for questioning in connection with the death. The three were later released and a file is being sent to the DPP.

The dead man has been named as Mr Ronam Godla, who was employed by a cleaning company in Dublin. He had been drinking in the Cabra Park house on Sunday afternoon.

The two men and a woman were being held in Mountjoy Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. The three were known to the dead man and gardaí believe they were at the house on Sunday when Mr Godla's injuries were sustained.

Gardaí were first alerted to the incident after an ambulance was called to Cabra Park just before 8 p.m. on Sunday. Paramedics found the man lying on the pavement and brought him to the nearby Mater Hospital, where he died shortly before 10 p.m.

The house was immediately sealed off and Garda technical experts carried out a full examination. A post-mortem was carried out but gardaí had not released the results last night.

They said further tests would be conducted on the man's body to help determine the exact cause of death.

One Garda source said the dead man had a number of serious head injuries, consistent with him having been hit repeatedly.

However, it is understood that no weapon was recovered at the scene.

Gardaí at Mountjoy have appealed for anyone who was in the Cabra Park area at about 8 p.m. on Sunday to contact them at (01) 6668600 or 1800 666 111.
