'Monday Millions' may lift Monday blues

A NEW National Lottery game offering punters a chance to win a potential €1 million every Monday night has started

A NEW National Lottery game offering punters a chance to win a potential €1 million every Monday night has started. The format of Monday Millions is similar to that of the Wednesday and Saturday night draws, with players choosing six numbers between one and 39 at a cost of €1 per line.

Match-six winners will win a maximum of €1million. However, the jackpot for the game will not rollover like other National Lottery games and a prize limit of €5 million is applied to each draw.

Monday Millions brings the number of weekly lottery draws to four. It will be broadcast on TV3 every Monday at about 8.30pm.

The new game comes as new figures show Irish adults spend an average of €15 million playing National Lottery games and buying scratch cards every week.

The weekly total has increased by €2 million since 2006 and by €3 million since 2005. An estimated two million people, some two-thirds of all adults, now participating in a lottery game regularly, with 1.4 million of these playing during a typical week.

The figures show at least 700,000 people play the Lotto as well as one of the EuroMillions, Telly Bingo, Millionaire Raffle or scratch card games each week.

Meanwhile, the joint winners of Saturday’s Lotto draw collected their prizes at National Lottery headquarters in Dublin yesterday.

The winners, a man from Letterkenny, Co Donegal, and a Dublin woman shared a jackpot of just under €2.8million.

“I felt really lucky this week and made sure I bought a Lotto ticket. I hoped to win a few euro but never dreamed I’d win the jackpot,” said the Donegal man, who purchased a winning €8 Quick Pick ticket.
