GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING a serious assault on a woman in Galway city this week have issued a description of a man they are seeking in relation to the incident.

The woman, who is in her 20s, has been released from hospital after sustaining “serious, but not life-threatening injuries” in an attack reported in the early hours of Thursday. Gardaí will not give details of the attack for operational reasons.

The reported assault took place shortly after 1am in the Newcastle area when the woman was walking alone and approaching the junction of Thomas Hynes Road and Cherry Park. The woman may have been followed for a short time before the attack.

The attacker is described as of Irish nationality, aged between 35 and 40, with black hair, an oval face, and facial hair which did not constitute a full beard.

He has been described as 5ft 8in – 5ft 9in and wearing dark blue or navy denims and a white shirt with no jacket.
