A 34 year-old man has been charged with the murder of a man in Dublin more than three years ago.
Paul Zambra appeared in court today in connection with the murder of 36-year-old Sean McMahon at Donamore Avenue, Tallaght on November 14th, 2007.
He was remanded in custody when he appeared before Judge Bridget O'Reilly at Tallaght District Court.
Mr Zambra, dressed in a blue and white striped top, a blue jacket and runners told Judge O'Reilly he had no assets, was living on social welfare and was seeking legal aid.
Garda Conor Harrison gave evidence of arresting Mr Zambra at Inagh Road Ballyfermot at 6.32am this morning. When charged with murder at Tallaght Garda station at 8.07am, Mr Zambra replied: "I am totally innocent to these charges".
Judge O'Reilly said bail did not arise given the seriousness of the charges and she ordered an assessment of Mr Zambra's means be carried out to determine his entitlement to free legal aid.
The judge remanded him to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Thursday.
Mr McMahon was shot in the head as he slept in his home on Donaghmore Avenue on November 14th by a gunman who gained access by the back door. The father-of-two's body was found by his partner.
He was known to gardaí as an armed robber and associate of car dealer Brian Downes, who was shot dead along with Edward Ward in Walkinstown, Dublin, in October 2007.
