A Tallaght man has been remanded in custody charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a 62-year-old woman in Dublin yesterday.

Peter Clarke (36), of Kiltalawn Court, Tallaght, appeared in Kilmainham District Court this morning.

Det. Sgt Seán Hogan of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation gave evidence of arresting Mr Clarke at Tallaght hospital at 6.35 yesterday under Section 27 of the Road Traffic Act.

Mr Clarke was taken to Kevin St Garda station where he was questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He was provisionally released at 5.40am and rearrested at 5.55am before being charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Máire Buckley close to the Bluebell Luas stop on the Naas Road. Ms Buckley of Oak Road, Donnycarney, Dublin 22 died at the scene.

The court heard Mr Clarke made no reply when charged.

There was no application for bail this morning.

A request by solicitor for Mr Clarke, Caroline Egan, that he receive medical and psychiatric treatment while in custody was granted by Judge Bridget Reilly.

The accused was remanded in custody to reappear at Cloverhill District Court at 10.30am on Friday.
