Man held over death of woman in Ballymun

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Ballymun, Dublin last night.

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Ballymun, Dublin last night.

The 24-year-old woman is believed to have died from stab wounds sustained in a flat at Stillogue Road in the Ballymun flats complex at around 10 p.m.

Afterwards, in a separate incident at a nearby house on Shangan Avenue, the woman's mother and a man were assaulted by an intruder with a knife. Neither were seriously injured in the assault although the woman's mother was treated in the Mater Hospital for her injuries and released this morning.

The State Pathologist Dr John Harbison is due to carry out a post mortem on the dead woman this morning.

A Garda spokeswoman said a 36-year-old man was being questioned at Ballymun Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The man is understood to have gone to the police voluntarily.
