A man was in Garda custody last night after being arrested armed with two swords following a domestic incident at his home.
Gardaí from the Bridewell in Dublin's north inner city were called to a domestic disturbance at a flat in Henrietta House shortly before midnight on Monday.
They found an agitated man on the road outside, armed with two swords. Negotiations were opened but the man remained agitated and aggressive. He was arrested after a short period during the course of which the Garda patrol car was damaged. There were no injuries to him or to gardaí.
He was taken to the Bridewell Garda station where he was still being held last night under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Samurai swords are not specified in the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990, but a Garda spokesman said people could be prosecuted for producing them in a public place without lawful reason.
