A MAN is critically ill in hospital after being stabbed by a friend at a house party

A MAN is critically ill in hospital after being stabbed by a friend at a house party. Another man who went to his aid was also stabbed by the attacker.

The two injured men are believed to be friends and housemates of the man who is suspected of having stabbed them.

The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning at a house at Greenmount Lawns, Terenure, Dublin.

Gardaí believe a party was under way at the property when a row began between two men.

One of them grabbed a knife and stabbed the other man. When a friend of both men tried to intervene, he too was stabbed.

Gardaí were called to the house shortly before 5.20am. When they arrived on the scene, they found one of the injured men collapsed in the porch.

He had stab wounds to his chest and stomach.

He was taken by ambulance to St James’s Hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Garda sources said he was stabbed in the area around his heart and there were now grave fears for his health.

The second man who was stabbed is aged 26 years. His injuries were not as serious and after undergoing medical treatment in hospital, he was discharged and is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect in the case remained at the property where the attack occurred until gardaí arrived and he was arrested there.

The 36-year-old was last night being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Terenure Garda station.

The suspect and the two injured men are from India and are all believed to have been living together in the house where the attack took place.

The property was sealed off yesterday and underwent an examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau. A number of knives have also been taken from the property for examination by gardaí.
