A man was in a critical condition in hospital early this morning after being shot a number of times outside his home in Ronanstown, west Dublin.

The man, aged 22, was standing in front of the house at St Mark's Avenue when two men drove past and opened fire with shotguns.

The attack occurred shortly after 1.10 a.m.

He sustained multiple hits to the chest and was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he was described as being in an extremely serious condition.

Garda∅ at Ronanstown said they had not yet identified a motive for the attack.

The scene has been sealed off and will be examined by a Garda forensics team today.
