A LUXURY sports car recently repossessed by a lending institution is expected to fetch in the region of €150,000 when it goes for auction next week.

The Aston Martin DB9, similar to the high-tech car driven by Daniel Craig in the latest series of James Bond films, was seized from its previous owner after its considerable repayments were not made.

The two-year-old, six-litre V12 car, which costs in excess of €250,000 new, is one of only a handful registered in Ireland.

The vehicle is currently parked in a sales yard in Naas, Co Kildare, awaiting auction, where, in spite of its large price tag and the supposed slowdown in lending and consumer spending, it is generating much interest.

“It’s a stunning car...It’s one of the highest spec cars in the world,” said David Byrne of Merlin Car Auctions.

“There has been a lot of interest. We have had a number of inquiries from various existing and new clients.”

Mr Byrne said he expected the car would generate in excess of €150,000 when it goes up for auction next Saturday. However, the final decision on its price would be made by the bank seeking to dispose of the asset.

“We need to look at the current market value, weigh up our options, relay those to the bank and they will assess the situation.”
