Over 85 settlements totalling €17

Over 85 settlements totalling €17.85 million were made by tax defaulters to the Revenue Commissioners during a three-month period between April and June this year.

In the period April 1st to June 30th, 2009, a total of 87 settlements were accepted, details of which have been published by the Revenue Commissioners in today's edition of an Iris Oifigiúil.

One settlement totalling €800,000 relates to an Ansbacher account holder, while five settlements totalling €2.48 million relate to "bogus non-resident" holders.

Fourteen settlements totalling €2.16 million relate to Revenue investigations into offshore funds, and 16 settlements totalling €3.16 million relate to Revenue’s Single Premium Insurance Products Cases.

Among those included on the list of defaulters are James Spencer, a jockey with an address at Grange House Stables, Hamilton Road, Newmarket, in Suffolk, England, who paid €102,855 under-declaration of capital gains tax in a revenue audit case.

Mary Cullen, owner of a lapdancing nightclub on Dublin's Leeson Street, paid an accumulated €261,736 following an underdeclaration of Vat and PAYE/PRSI in a revenue audit case.

Fine Gael councillor Anne Devitt of Lispopple, Swords, Co Dublin, paid €50,000 to the Revenue Commissioners for under-declaration of income tax and capital gains tax.

Barry Fitzgerald, a solicitor with an address at Kiltartan House, Forster St, Galway, paid €2,565,442 in accumulated taxes, interest and penalties for under-declaration of Income tax, capital gains tax and VAT.

In another Revenue audit case, Paul McGlade, a business and management consultant with an address at Upper Merrion Street, Dublin 2, paid €1,024,184 in accumulated taxes, interest and penalties for the underdeclaration of capital gains tax.

Cornelius Minihane, a fisherman from Curramore, Fillane, Castletownbere, Co Cork, paid Revenue an accumulated €1,192,843.25 for underdeclaration of income tax.

Solicitor Gerard A Moylan of Lake Rd, Loughrea, Co Galway, paid €1,286,842.14 in a case of underdeclaration of income tax following a Revenue investigation into a bogus non-resident account.

Timothy Nagle, a builder from Carrigeen, Doneraile, Mallow, Co Cork, paid a total of €780,574.57 to the Revenue for underdeclaration of income tax and VAT following an investigation into a bogus non-resident account, an investigation into offshore assets and a single premium insurance products case.

Sat Lian Yong, listed as a takeaway food supplier of Charlemont, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9, paid €835, 668 for underdeclaration of income tax.

The published settlements reflect a portion only of all Revenue audits and investigations concluded in the three-month period to June 30th, 2009.

The total yield from all Revenue audits and investigations concluded in the three-month period to June 30th, 2009, was €179.40 million, according to the latest figures.
