Jobs boost for Cavan as Tesco opens new store

Tesco will create 90 new jobs today with the opening of a new store in Bailieborough, Co Cavan.

Tesco will create 90 new jobs today with the opening of a new store in Bailieborough, Co Cavan.

The store, located off Thomas Street in the town, is Tesco Ireland’s 16th new supermarket during 2008 and the company’s second in the county.

They now employ around 13,500 people in Ireland with 170 workers in Co Cavan.

Dermot Breen, Tesco Ireland’s director of corporate affairs, said the new store will feature a number of environmental initiatives including motion detection lighting in staff and store rooms as well as solar sensitive lighting on the shop floor.

Rainwater will also be recycled and used in the store's toilet systems.

The store was officially opened this morning by Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith.
