'Irish Times' wins national web award

Irishtimes.com has been named Ireland’s Best Online Publication at the 2011 Realex Irish Web Awards.

Irishtimes.com has been named Ireland’s Best Online Publication at the 2011 Realex Irish Web Awards.

The award was presented to online editor Hugh Linehan at a ceremony at the Mansion House in Dublin on Saturday night. It was the fourth year in a row that the website won the category.

“It is brilliant to win the best online publication again,” said Linehan. “Everyone working on irishtimes.com appreciates the recognition of their work.”

Irishtimes.com beat competition from the Limerick Post, the Cork Independent, Click Magazine, the Cork News and Nós Mag.

Other winners include 98FM, which took the Best Radio Website award, Best Entertainment Website Pop Culture Monster and Goldenplec which was named Best Music Site. The Best Independent Podcaster prize went to The Comic Cast and Kilkenny Triathlon Club was named Best Sports Site.

Politics.ie was named Best Discussion Forum.

The Organic Supermarket was named Most Beautiful Website in Ireland and Best SME/Small Business Website, while and Ex Ordo was named Best New Web Application/Service and Best Practice.

Dublin Bikes 2 Go won in the Best Mobile Site category, while Fatcheese was named Most Useful Website in Ireland.

The Journal won Best Web Only Publication and the Grand Prix prize for Best Website, which was won by irishtimes.com last year.

Award organiser Damien Mulley said he was delighted to see so many new websites and new winners this year. “Hundreds of websites were distilled down with the best coming out on the night.,” he said. “As well as the deserving winners, the night was a great way for 300 people from the Irish web community to come together and unwind.”
