An Irish man was killed in Malaysia when his motorcycle collided with a lorry on Monday morning.

An Irish man was killed in Malaysia when his motorcycle collided with a lorry on Monday morning.

Desmond Francis Walsh (48) died at the scene on Jalan Kiulu-Pukak, close to the popular tourist destination of Sungai Kiulu at about 11.25am.

Local media in Malaysia are reporting that Mr Walsh was on holiday in the area with two friends. He was travelling on a rented motorbike when the accident occurred.

His body has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The driver of the lorry has been detained to assist with police investigations into the accident.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said consular assistance has been offered to Mr Walsh’s family.
