A man killed in a head-on collision in Co Monaghan yesterday has been named as James Falconer (26), of O'Brien Park, Omagh, Co Tyrone.

He was the sole occupant of a Ford Fiesta that was in a collision with an Audi estate car on a straight stretch of the N2 Dublin to Derry road at Drummond Otra, about 1km from Carrickmacross.

Mr Falconer was declared dead at the scene. Two occupants of the Audi were removed by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with what have been described as non-life threatening injuries.

The road remained closed for hours as gardaí carried out a technical examination.
