Speculation is rife in Co Galway about the holder of the winning ticket in Saturday’s lotto jackpot, which was worth more than €8.5 million.
The National Lottery said the jackpot ticket, a quickpick, was sold in the Corrib Oil service station in Loughrea, Co Galway.
The winning numbers were 5, 6, 14, 19, 22, and 30, with the bonus number 24.
There were three Match 5 + Bonus winners, each receiving a cash prize worth 41,933.
It is the biggest National Lottery win of the year to date.
Corrib Oil Service Station store manager Pat Halligan said they heard late last night tht they had sold the winning ticket, which was purchased on Friday.
“It’s good publicity and there’s a great buzz this morning with plenty of people in to check their tickets,” he said.
It is the first lotto win for the Loughrea station although a Corrib oil service station in Westport was a winner several years ago.
“We hope it’s a local though we have a lot of passing traffic because we’re on a main road.”
They do not know what time of the day the ticket was purchased, which limits speculation about potential winners but the Corrib oil station sits at the top of the town on a hill and would have a lot of local custom as well.
A significant amount of custom comes in from factories and businesses in the area.
The store manager himself did not buy a ticket but “staff are checking their tickets as they arrive for their shifts”. The service station has some 30 full and part-time staff .
Mr Halligan said it would be great if it was a local who won but “whoever wins it we hope it makes them happy”.
In January, a Dublin family syndicate collected a €38.9 million jackpot in the EuroMillions draw.
