Hullabaloo! Offaly’s Children’s Arts Festival

Offaly's 6th annual Hullabaloo children's arts festival takes place this weekend in Birr and Clara, packed with workshops and performances for children aged 3-12 years. This mid-term break festival includes zombie dance classes, film showings, puppetry and ghost walks for all the family. Parents are asked to book workshops early due to high demand by calling Birr Library on 057 9124950 or Clara Library 057 9331389.

Discotekken Halloween Bash, The Sugar Club

Dublin's Sugar Club is marking the scariest day of the year tonight (FRI) with a live '80s tribute band, hip hop DJs, t-shirt printing, a spooky hip hop bake sale and free '80s make up. Fancy dress is encouraged but not essential. Early bird online tickets are sold out but there are a limited amount of tickets available at 9pm on the door.

Scarefield at Airfield, Dundrum

Grab your witch's broom and vampire cape, Airfield in Dundrum is set to transform into Scarefield this Friday and Saturday with spooky stories and ghostly encounters for all the family. Festivities run from 4.30-7pm with face painting, woodland walks in the deep forest, twinkling pumpkins and towers of hand-carved creatures. Visitors are invited to take a bite from hanging applies, taste the Scarefield barmbrack to discover their fortune, or try out the ghastly smell experience. Families are advised to wrap up as most activities will be outdoors.

Tickets: €12 per person. Children under 2 years go for free.

Drive-in movies

Tattersalls Country House in Ratoath, Co Meath is hosting drive-in movies all weekend until Sunday, November 2nd.

To get you in the Halloween mood, movie fans will be treated to screenings of cult favourites including Psycho and ET as well as the Stand By Me and Dirty Dancing. There will be matinee screenings of family favourites including The Lego Movie and Princess Bride.

Wexford Opera Festival

Tickets are still available for the final weekend of the 63rd annual Wexford Opera Festival with performances of Salomé, Don Bucefalo and Silent Night. An estimated 5 million people worldwide are expected to tune into the Saturday night performance of Don Bucefalo by Antonio Cagnonion on RTÉ Lyric FM. This year's festival also includes performances in the Wexford Spiegeltent. Donal Skehan will be in the tent at 3pm on Sunday with his live cookery show followed by a performance from Martha Wainwright at 7pm.

Oireachtas na Samhna 2014

The annual Oireachtas na Samhna takes place from October 28th - November 2nd in Killarney, Co Kerry. Saturday's Irish-language events include theatre, sean-nós singing and a comedy show, while on Sunday RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta listeners can tune in live for morning events from the Oireachtas. There is an Oireachtas app available for iPhone and Android users to keep up to date with all the weekend debates and competitions.

The Oireachtas is open to the public at the Gleneagle Hotel on Muckross Road, Killarney.

Mad Hatters Festival, Sligo

The Mad Hatter festival of children's theatre takes place in Sligo this weekend at The Hawk's Well Theatre on Temple Street. Events run till Saturday, November 1st and include a fancy dress party on Friday afternoon and a circus workshop and informal music performances on Saturday. The Hawk's Well Theatre and Blue Raincoat Theatre festival collaboration brings a range of high quality theatre, music and puppetry from home and abroad to the young people of Sligo
