A 19-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman were killed in separate incidents in Roscommon and Limerick yesterday.

The man was killed when the car in which he was a passenger hit a wall on the R368 near Four Mile House Co Roscommon at about 8pm yesterday evening.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other men in the car were injured and taken to hospitals in Galway, Sligo and Mullingar.

The road was closed to traffic and Garda forensic collision investigators attended the scene. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Roscommon Garda station on 090-6638300 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

An 82-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by a car as she crossed the road at Ballynabanouge, Croom at 7.15pm last night.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.

The road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda collision investigators and has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Newcastle West Garda station on 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Line or any Garda station.
