Teenager killed in Mount Leinster car crash to be buried on Wednesday

One passenger remains in serious condition in Dublin’s Mater hospital

The funeral of 16-year-old Eamon Kavanagh in a car crash on Mount Leinster at the weekend will take place in St Lazarian’s Church, Drumphea, Co Carlow on Wednesday.

He was fatally injured when the car he was driving struck a wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Waterford Hospital.

The four other male occupants of the car, all in their late teens, were taken to St Luke’s Hospital and Waterford University Hospital. One of the four was transferred to Dublin’s Mater hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Friends have been paying tribute to the deceased youth on social media, with one poster predicting Eamon Kavanagh would “make everyone smile up there”.

Local politician Denis Foley, who is a cousin of one of the youths, said his relative received a broken nose and a bruised spleen, but would recover.

Psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service have provided counselling services to pupils at Borris Vocational School, where Eamon Kavanagh was a pupil.

A notice posted by the Kavanagh family on RIP.ie said the extended family and friends were experiencing “inexpressible grief”.

Following 2pm funeral Mass on Wednesday, interment will take place in Lismaconoly Cemetery, Myshall.
