A teenager (16) has been killed in a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Tipperary.
The young teenager was a passenger in the back seat of the car, which collided with a tree at Boston, Tipperary.
The two other occupants in the car were a 22-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, who were both taken to hospital following the collision. The man is described as in a “serious condition” by Gardaí.
The car was travelling on the the Ballingarry North road towards Cloughjordan road, when the vehicle collided with a tree at approximately 3.45pm on Tuesday.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, according to a spokesman for the Gardaí.
The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick.
The other two people involved in the crash were taken from the scene to Tullamore Hospital and University Hospital Limerick.
Gardaí in Borrisokane are investigating the incident, and have appealed for any witnesses who may have seen the crash take place yesterday afternoon.
A spokesman for the Gardaí said the “stretch of road was closed for a time to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and has since reopened”.
He said anyone with any information or any witnesses are being asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station on 067-50450.
