A status yellow rainfall warning is in place for counties Dublin, Louth, Wexford Wicklow, Meath, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford until midnight on Monday.
Met Éireann says rainfall accumulations of up to 45mm can be expected in southern parts of Munster and Leinster.
Southern and eastern coasts will be subject to strong, southeasterly winds throughout the day also. Consequently, during periods of high tide, these winds may could cause wave overtopping in coastal areas.
Dublin City Council says flood gates at Clontarf, Merrion Gates, Sandymount Strand and along the river Dodder will close from 4pm on Monday.
