Nine-year-old cyclist airlifted to hospital after being hit by car

Boy was on his way at the time to help father milk cows at Rathgormack, Co Waterford

A nine-year-old was airlifted to hospital after he was knocked off his bicycle by a passing motorist.

The incident occurred at Rathgormack, Co Waterford at 6.30pm on Sunday.

The boy was cycling to help his father milk cows when the incident took place.

The air ambulance service was summoned immediately and the nine-year-old was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

A Garda spokesman said the boy’s injuries are not serious and the decision to take him to CUH was because of the remoteness of the location where the incident took place.
