A man in his late 20s has been left in a critical condition in hospital following a crash on the M50 motorway, Dublin, on Sunday.

The man was injured when his motorcycle was in collision with a car on the slip road from Ballymun heading onto the M50 southbound.

He was rushed from the scene to Beaumont Hospital, where he is in a critical condition.

The driver of the car, a woman in her late 30s, was not injured in the crash.

The collision led to delays on the motorway on Sunday evening, with parts of the M50 closed and traffic diverted.

A Garda spokeswoman confirmed gardaí in Ballymun were investigating a serious road traffic collision on the M50. Garda forensic collision investigators are currently at the scene of the collision to carry out a technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses or road users who were in the area where the collision took place, who may have video or dash cam footage, to come forward.
