Customs find €40,000 worth of cocaine in suitcase of passenger on flight from Faro

A man (28) is due to appear in court on Monday morning in connection with a €40,000 drugs seizure by customs officers at Cork Airport at the weekend.

The Irish citizen was detained by officers at the airport after they searched his luggage and found half a kilo of cocaine hidden in the frame of his suitcase.

The man, who had had been living in Cork up until recently when he moved to the UK, had just disembarked from a flight from Faro in the Algarve in Portugal on Saturday.

He was later handed over by customs officers to gardaí who arrested him under anti-drug trafficking legislation which allows suspects to be detained for up to seven days.
