Gardaí find cannabis growhouse at Newtwopothouse

Detectives in Co Cork hold two men for questioning over €150,000 drugs haul

Gardaí in North Cork are this morning questioning two menarrested following the seizure of an estimated €150,000 worth of drugs in a cannabis growhouse near Mallow.

Detectives from the Mallow District Drugs Unit backed up by uniformed members found the growhouse when they raided a house at Newtwopothouse three miles from Mallow at 10pm yesterday.

Garda described the growhouse as a very sophisticated operation, recovering more than 200 plants at varying stages of maturity from four growing tents set up in the house.

Gardaí arrested two Polish men, aged 27 and 24, under under drug trafficking legislation. The suspects can be held for up to seven days

Both were taken to Mallow Garda Station for questioning about the drug growing operation and the cannabis which gardaí believe was destined for the local Cork market.

Garda technical experts are this morning beginning a forensic examination of the scene. The plants are being sent to the State Laboratory in Dublin for analysis. Gardaí are also carrying out follow up inquiries including with Interpol.
