Health and Safety Authority investigates workplace incident at Greenstar in Ballymount

A man was killed at the Greenstar waste recycling facility in Ballymount Industrial Estate in west Dublin yesterday.

The man is believed to have been run over by a forklift at about 3pm. He was rushed Tallaght Hospital but died from his injuries a short time later. A full postmortem is to be carried out.

A second man was treated in hospital for shock. He did not sustain any injuries in the incident.

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority is carrying out an investigation into the incident, which has been described as a workplace accident.

Gardaí are appealing for these persons, and anyone who was at the Greenstar Recycling facility between 2.45 and 3.30pm yesterday to contact them at Crumlin Garda station on 01-6666200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.

In a statement, Greenstar confirmed the tragic incident at the Ballymount facility.

“Operations were immediately suspended at the facility and a full internal investigation has been launched into the incident. Greenstar is co-operating fully with the Garda and Health and Safety Authority investigations.

“The company expresses its sincere condolences to the deceased’s family,” it said.
