Electric Picnic
One of the biggest music festivals in the land takes place this weekend in Stradbally, Co Laois but tickets sold out weeks ago. Outkast, Foals, Bonnie Tyler, Portishead and many more will perform between this evening and Sunday night.

Croke Park Classic
American football takes over Croke Park tomorrow when college sides Penn State and the University of Central Florida square off for the Dan Rooney Trophy (named after the former US Ambassador to Ireland and chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers). Kickoff is at 1.30pm, and ticketholders are invited to a tailgate party beforehand in Temple Bar hosted by Dublin City Council. Tickets range from €20 to €95.

Feminist Film Festival
Celebrate women in film at this festival held in Dublin's New Theatre. Highlights include a Q&A with Irish filmmaker Vivienne Dick and the Irish premiere of Elaine Stritch, Shoot me - a documentary about the feisty late actress. All profits go to Sasane, Nepal, a charity that supports female victims of human trafficking.

Oughterard Agricultural and Horticultural Show
This agricultural show in Connemara is on all weekend. Its two main competitions take place on Sunday: the Powers Quarry International Ridden Performance for Connemara Ponies and the Western Regional Irish Draught Foal Championship.

Loughrea Medieval Festival
Festivalgoers are invited to “take a step back in time” at this festival which features a Medieval food trail through the town all weekend and tomorrow’s candlelit Medieval Latin mass.

Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival
One of Ireland’s oldest festivals kicks off with a country music weekend in Lisdoonvarna, Co Clare. But the matchmaking doesn’t start until next month. The festivities will continue until October 6th, when the festival closes with the second annual LGBT matchmaking weekend: The Outing.
