A convicted murderer who escaped from custody in Northern Ireland last Friday has been caught by police.
Thomas Valliday, who had been an inmate at Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim, escaped while at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald. He was caught in Belfast on Monday evening.
PSNI Superintendent Sean Wright confirmed the 27-year-old had been arrested.
“Following extensive police enquiries and with support and assistance from the public, officers arrested Thomas Valliday in Belfast earlier this evening,” Supt Wright said.
He will be taken for interview by police before being returned to prison in due course.”
He thanked members of the public for helping police to get the “dangerous individual back into custody” and for “keeping people safe.”
In 2010, Valliday was found guilty of the murder of west Belfast man Frank “Bap” McGreevy, at his home in March 2008.
The 51-year-old father-of-two was found brutally beaten in his flat in Ross Street and died three days later.
The PSNI had warned the public of the escape on Friday via twitter.
“At large prisoner Thomas Valliday made off while at Ulster Hospital, Dundonald earlier. He should not be approached,” the twitter post said.
