The Nobel Prize winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman is to participate in the 2019 Kilkenomics festival.

Krugman is the author of 27 books in his field but has come to popular acclaim more for his accessible writing and columns aimed at a less specialist audience.

He received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2008 for his work on international trade theory. He holds posts at both the City University of New York and Princeton University. He joined the New York Times as a columnist in 1999.

Once labelled “Davos with jokes”, the aim of the Kilkenny based “Kilkenomics” festival is to marry serious thinkers with comedians in what organisers describe as the world’s first economics festival.

This year's line-up also features Jeffrey Sachs, a professor of economics whose syndicated newspaper columns are published around the world. He has been described by the New York Times as "probably the most important economist in the world".
