Mainly dry and settled weather is set to continue this week with temperatures peaking in the high teens on Thursday before unsettled conditions return, Met Éireann has said.

The national forecaster said Monday will begin cloudy and there may be isolated showers in the north during the morning, but sunny spells will develop in the afternoon.

Light south-easterly breezes will mean a cooler day for eastern coastal areas, with the midlands and west faring better. Temperatures are expected to range from 12 to 15 degrees.

A cold, dry night on Monday will bring patches of mist and fog to some places and temperatures as low as 1 degree.

Tuesday will bring another mainly dry day with sunny spells. Temperatures along the east coast will again be lower, with easterly breezes persisting, while the midlands and west could reach 16 degrees. Tuesday night will be cold everywhere with ground frost in some places.

Met Éireann has said Wednesday and Thursday will also be dry with sunny spells and light easterlies. Temperatures on these days are likely to peak between 14 to 18 degrees before the dry spell breaks on Thursday night as rain spreads from the south west.

Friday looks like being cloudy with rain in many areas and it will be much cooler than previous days with highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees. The forthcoming weekend will also be cool with mainly west or northwest winds and highest temperatures of around 10 to 12 degrees. Rain showers will spread from the west.
