Industrial production up 0.6%

The volume of industrial production increased by 0.6 per cent in September, compared to the same month a year earlier.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that production in the third quarter rose 4 per cent compared to the prior quarter.

During September there was a strong rise in production of pharmaceutical goods although there was also a marked decreased in producton of computer goods and food products.

The annual increase in the modern sector - which comprises of a number of high technology and chemical industries - showed an annual increase in production of 10.9 per cent in September while a 17.7 per cent decrease in production was recorded in the traditional sector.

The seasonally adjusted industrial turnover index for Manufacturing Industries was 11.4 per cent lower in the third quarter when compared to the precedign three-month period.

On an annual basis turnover was 11.1 per centlower when compared with September 2008.
