HOME FURNISHINGS giant Ikea has announced plans to recruit about 100 temporary staff to help it handle the volume of customers visiting its new outlet in Ballymun in north Dublin.
The Swedish company said the store has had an average daily footfall of more than 15,500 people since it opened on July 27th, some five years after plans to open in the Republic were first mooted.
Ikea said the contracts will initially be for a two-month period with a view to creating permanent positions if current consumer demand continues. The positions will be spread across sales, services, logistics and food services at the 31,500sq m outlet.
The store currently employs 500 people, and in April some 4,000 people queued in Ballymun to inquire about 280 entry-level jobs at the store.
Applications for the new positions can be made on www.ikea.ie until August 15th.
The furniture maker expects to attract 2.75 million visitors to the Ballymun outlet during its first year, and has predicted annual turnover of €100 million.
Garry Deakin, the manager of Ikea Dublin, said he was thrilled by the response and “exceptional consumer demand” the store has experienced.
