Hundreds of anti-war demonstrators are expected in Shannon tomorrow to protest at the use of Irish airport facilities by the US military.
The protest is being organised by the Irish Anti-War Movement and numbers are expected to exceed the biggest protest to date - which saw about 400-500 protesters in attendance last October.
The Irish Anti War Movement is calling for an end to the use of Shannon by the US military. The organisation's chairperson, Mr Richard Boyd Barrett, says if the Government withdrew permission for use of Shannon's facilities, it would "have a huge political impact in the US and give a huge boost to the growing opposition to the war in the US itself".
Mr Boyd Barrett said "widespread public opposition to the war on Iraq shows clearly that that the Government is completely out of step with the views of the majority of people in Ireland on this issue".
Saturday's demonstration in Shannon assembles in the town centre at 2 p.m.
Ms Patricia Mc Kenna MEP, Ms Jan O'Sullivan TD, Mr Joe Higgins TD as well as representatives of the Anti-War Movement and other peace groups are expected to attend.
