MINISTER FOR Justice Dermot Ahern has approved an additional payment of €250,000 to the Irish Human Rights Commission this year. However, a Budget cutback of 24 per cent for next year holds.

Mr Ahern has made the allocation from savings in other department expenditures.

This resulted from contact with commission president Dr Maurice Manning.

The extra funds will enable the commission to meet financial commitments. The Minister and his officials believe the commission and the Equality Authority could make savings on rental in Dublin.
