Paddy Gribben and Gary Murphy both shot level par 72s at San Roque and Sotogrande today in the first round of the European Tour qualifying school finals.

Ireland’s Philip Walton and David Higgins shot two-over par 74s and are still very much in the hunt after day one.

The leading 75 players after four rounds this week, two at each course, will progress to a final two rounds at San Roque over the weekend. On Sunday, only the top 35 finishers will earn their cards for next season’s European Tour.

England’s Matthew Cort carded the score of the day, a seven-under par 65 at Sotogrande. Sweden’s Magnus Persson heads the field at San Roque after a six-under par 66
