HSE investigating following death of baby born in Mullingar

The HSE has confirmed that it is carrying out an investigation into the death of a baby born at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

The baby, born on August 16th, was taken to the National Maternity Hospital neo natal unit where it subsequently died on August 22nd.

The HSE said in a statement that a “full and thorough investigation into this tragic event” has already commenced. The family of the baby are involved in the process, it added.

"The Hospital extends its deepest sympathy to the family," the statement concluded.
