IF YOU DO ONE THING THIS WEEK...Get some heart friendly recipes
We hear all the time that a diet that's high in saturated fat, refined sugar and salt isn't the best news for the ticker and pipes. So to get some tasty ideas that go easier on the heart, check out the new cookbook I Love Good Foodfrom the Irish Heart Foundation (IHF).
“We’ve included some old-time favourites, a few modern selections, and signature dishes from some familiar personalities and establishments, while sticking to our goal to encourage food that is heart-healthy and rich in taste,” says IHF dietitian Janis Morrissey.
Recipes include spicy crunchy chicken salad in lettuce cups, cranberry and orange scones, Asian fish cakes with cucumber relish, low-fat chips and mocha chocolate mousse pots.
I Love Good Food(Poolbeg) includes contributions from well-known names such as Rosanna Davison, Marty Whelan, Neven Maguire and Donal Skehan. It is available at book stores or through the IHF website, irishheart.ie, priced at €16.99. A donation will be made to the IHF for every cookbook sold.
