Connect, an out-of-hours telephone counselling service for adults who were abused in childhood, has extended its opening hours over the holiday period.
It is open every evening from 6pm-10pm until Sunday, January 1st. People can call free at 1800-477477 or tel: 00-800-47747777 (from the UK). Callers will be able to speak to a professionally-trained counsellor who can listen and provide support. See connectcounselling.ie

- Dublin City Council’s Strings Project is appealing to owners of unwanted musical instruments to donate them to children in disadvantaged primary schools in Dublin city centre. The children are given free weekly music lessons and free use of instruments as part of the project.

- First Fortnight, an arts-based mental health awareness project, is holding an arts festival from January 4th-14th in Temple Bar, Dublin.
Organised in conjunction with See Change, a mental health stigma reduction partnership, the First Fortnight Festival will include live music (Dublin band Royseven, pictured above, will headline the final evening at the Button Factory), theatre (Marie O’Rourke’s 565+ show about dealing with depression by going to the theatre), film and visual arts.
