Gardai investigating the attempted abduction of a young mother in Co Waterford again appealed for a motorist who came to her rescue to contact them.

The woman, in her mid-20s, was out walking with her four-month-old daughter at lunchtime on Tuesday when a man in a red Opel Astra tried to drag her into his car after she had refused a lift.

The incident happened on the Midleton road, about 200 yards from the village of Tallow, near the Waterford-Cork border.

Gardai are anxious to speak to a motorist who came on the scene and asked the woman if she was all right. He left after the driver of the Astra sped off towards Midleton.

The woman's attacker was aged between 20 and 30, had black hair and a pale complexion, was cleanshaven and of "strong build". He wore a black T-shirt with white writing and may have had a local accent.
