Two people admitted to St James's Hospital after the collision were described as serious. Hospital authorities at the Mater described a fourth woman as being in a serious condition.

Investigations into the cause of the crash by gardaí, Dublin Bus and Veolia Transport are continuing.

Gardaí said today they had conducted a preliminary investigation into the collision. They said the public's response had been very helpful, but that they required more information from people who were in specific locations at the time of the crash.

They are seeking to talk to anyone who was outside Clarks shoe shop on Lower O'Connell Street between 2.30pm and 3.10pm on Wednesday.

They also want to speak to pedestrians who were on the median strip or crossing the median strip at the Abbey Street and O'Connell street junction.

Gardaí have also asked drivers of private vehicles or taxis travelling northbound towards Parnell Square at the time to contact them.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact gardaí at Store Street 01-6668000, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station," a spokesman said.

The cause of the crash has not yet been ascertained.

On Thursday, chairman of CIÉ Dr John Lynch said examination of CCTV footage showed the bus driver had a green light.

Veolia Transport refused to comment on the assertion, saying it would wait until after investigations were complete before commenting.
