GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the murder of a young north Galway man in the city this week have issued a new photograph of a Polish man they believe may help them with their inquiries.
Supt Tom Curley of Galway Garda station said he was appealing to members of the Polish community who may be able to identify the man.
The man is believed to have been in the city centre with a female friend in the early hours of June 3rd when Kieran Cunningham (20) from Slieve Finn in Co Galway was stabbed to death. A woman in her 20s was arrested on Thursday under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act but was released yesterday.
It is understood the woman is the female in a CCTV-captured image of a couple issued earlier this week by the Garda Press Office.
Mr Cunningham died from extensive blood loss and trauma following multiple stab wounds, sustained minutes after he left the Karma night club near Eyre Square at about 2.11am on Wednesday.
He was found by his friends some minutes after the assault at Williamsgate Street and was rushed to University College Hospital, Galway, where he died several hours later. Gardaí believe he was the victim of a random attack.
A detailed description of the couple in the CCTV image was reissued by the Garda Press Office yesterday evening. The man is described as “in his mid-20s, approx six foot in height with dark coloured hair, tightly cut”.
“He is wearing a blue coloured T-shirt with the logo ‘Sao Paolo 09’ and stonewashed denim jeans. The T-shirt has a white rim on the neck and sleeves.”
