Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman was assaulted and robbed in Kilkenny yesterday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman was assaulted and robbed in Kilkenny yesterday morning.

The woman who is 86 was walking in the College View, Walkin Street area of the city at about 11.30am when the attack took place.

The pensioner was robbed and sustained injuries during the incident. She was brought to St Luke's Hospital where tonight she is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

A male in his 30s was arrested and is currently being detained at Kilkenny Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
