SOME 400,000 GAA members across Ireland and overseas gathered over the weekend to celebrate grass-roots Gaelic games as part of the organisation’s 125th anniversary festivities.

On a weekend made free of competitive intercounty action, more than 2,500 clubs held Masses, barbecues, céilís, concerts and special matches to mark Lá na gClub.

GAA president Christy Cooney said the occasion helped to underline the special place of the local club at the heart of the wider organisation.

“These events offered club members involved in the various different activities of club life the chance to come together on the same occasion and celebrate their involvement and membership of the same unit.”

Clubs who marked the occasion are asked to send their videoclips and photographs to 125@gaa.ie, as the association intends to compile a collection of the events that took place over the weekend.
