Met Éireann has issued a weather warning today predicting heavy rain which could lead to flooding in many areas.
The agency has warned of a risk of between 25 and 50mm of rain over a 24-hour period from 6am today.
It predicts rain to be heaviest in the western half of the country today and in Munster, Leinster and Ulster tonight.
Heavy and possibly thundery rain will develop in south Leinster and east Munster tonight and will spread over Leinster and Ulster, with flooding likely in many areas.
The warning comes after this weekend’s deluge which saw flash flooding in large parts of Dublin city and along the eastern seaboard.
Today’s rain is expected to clear from the south overnight but will persist further north. Brighter weather is predicted tomorrow but Ulster will see further rain, becoming heavy at times.
According to Met Éireann, the equivalent of a month's average rainfall fell in parts of Dublin on Saturday. It recorded 76.2mm of rain at its weather station at Dublin airport between midnight on Friday and midnight Saturday, the second highest amount to fall in the capital during a 24-hour period since records began.
