TONIGHT’S LOTTO jackpot is heading for €15 million, potentially making it the fifth largest single win in the game’s history.

It is the 15th draw in this rollover sequence, and seven weeks have passed since the jackpot was last won on September 1st.

If a single winner scoops the prize they would become the 400th Lotto millionaire since the draw began and the 20th jackpot winner this year.

The National Lottery is advising people to play early and before the 7.45pm deadline. More than 85,000 Lotto plays per hour are expected during this evening’s peak buying period.

The National Lottery yesterday noted that if one of the popular sets of numbers are drawn, they are more likely to have several winners and a lower prize per person.

“Some sets of numbers are very popular and played by lots of people regularly. Good examples are sequences like 1-2-3-4-5-6, or 2-4-6-8-10, or 5-10-15-20-25-30. Combinations based on diagonal lines on Lotto playslips are also very popular,” a spokeswoman said. This year has already seen the second largest Lotto jackpot since the game began 22 years ago.
